Types of Home Water Filters

There two main types of filters – filters that clean the water for the whole house (whole house water filters) and filters that clean water at the point where it is used (point of use water filters).
In most cases it’s quite difficult to clean water for the whole house (you may live in an apartment building, and besides the prices on such systems are quite high).
That’s why point of use water filters are of great help.
There’s a wide range of point of use water filters: shower water filter, pitcher water filter, countertop water filter, refrigerator filter and so on.

One of the most popular types is faucet water filters. These are the filters that are screwed on a faucet.
The variation of this type is shower water filter that is to use on a shower head. Most often these filters are based on the carbon filtering system. They are very easy to use, inexpensive and cause no problems with installation. But you need to change them from time to time, and beside the water flow can be slowed down.

Countertop water filters are installed on the countertop by the sink and are connected to the water faucet. They remove 99 % of the contaminants and sometimes include an Ultraviolet light source to make the cleaning more effective.

Inline/Undersink water filters are installed out of sight in your plumbing. But you may be not able to install it by yourself and you’ll need to ask the plumber to do it. These filters are based on the carbon filtering system together with osmosis and ionization systems. They are quite easy to use but may be more expensive.

In any case while choosing the filter you should take into consideration it’s capacity, output capacity, type of filtration system it’s based on, the amount of water it uses and of course the price.
